Clear Separation of Concerns

The LearningNAV Foundation is a non-profit organization responsible for governing and maintaining the open knowledge infrastructure. This includes the Knowledge Graph, its nodes and relations, the Public API, and the contributor community.

Commercial entities may build applications, products, and services that utilize the Foundation's open infrastructure through the Public API. These commercial activities are separate from the Foundation's governance and maintenance responsibilities.

This structural separation ensures that:

  • The Knowledge Graph remains open and community-governed, independent of any commercial interest.
  • Commercial innovation can flourish on top of a stable, trusted infrastructure without compromising the integrity of the underlying knowledge base.
  • The Foundation's non-profit mission is protected from conflicts of interest.
  • The community retains full control over the knowledge assets they contribute to and maintain.
